Our values
At Gecko Climb, our values are the foundation of everything we do. They guide how we build our space, how we treat our community, and how we grow as a team. More than just a climbing gym, we’re a place where people come together — to move, to connect, and to belong. The values below reflect our commitment to creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space for all.
1. Belonging
Gecko Climb is a place for climbers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to come together, participate in the sport and feel welcomed, respected and valued. We strive to create and maintain a space where people feel a sense of belonging.
2. Quality
We set a high standard and we keep reaching higher; by listening to our community and being open to change and improvement
3. Safety
Climbing and bouldering can be dangerous, Gecko Climb prioritises safety with well-maintained equipment and comprehensive safety protocols. We offer beginner-friendly orientations and staff-led safety. We strive for a supportive environment that values mental and physical wellbeing for our staff and customers
4. Reconciliation
Celebrate Darwin’s diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, recognise that Gecko Climb sits on the lands of the Larrakia people and that land was never ceded. Through our operations, Gecko Climb will further reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by seeking to partner with Aboriginal communities to provide services in a culturally safe way that meets their needs and further their self-determined objectives.
5. Being the Change
Our vision for Gecko Climb is to create a space where everyone can belong and bond over a shared enjoyment of climbing. It is also a space where we can both affirm our own identities and build empathy for identities different from our own, something that is increasingly missing in our world today.
At Gecko Climb, we are committed to supporting our community through donations, sponsorships, and in-kind contributions. We believe that climbing and community go hand in hand, and we want our contributions to reflect our values of inclusivity, fairness, and social responsibility. We also beleive that it is important for us to speak up about issues that are important!
Three priority areas for our advocacy and community engagemnt are:
- Focus on Youth and Accessibility
- Reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
- Advocate for Justice and Human Rights
